New 9100 Radio

Posted by Archie KD6OLH on January 6, 2018 at 12:30 AM Comments comments ()

:lol:Hi All: As you all know, my Xmas present to me was a ICOM 9100 radio. All my kids bitched about this extravagance, but it's only there inherentce i'm spending. So I spent it on me. This darn radio is smarter than me. I haven't learned how to use it well. So I just push buttons to see what works and how. The real problem is CRN (can't remember nothing). Maybe one of these days i'll get how to run this thing down. So untill then, i'll just suffer...Archie KD6OLH

Hi All: This past Xmas, I went to the Aerospace Xmas party and had a good time. At the party they had a Xmas raffel. Thank god I bought a lot of tickets. We all had a good time, good friendship, conversation, and food. Most all of us talked about our station and what we would do if we had the $$$s. After the meal, the raffel was held. Last time one member won a 706 mobile rig brand new in the box. This time I won a Verticle Antenna, 10 bands, 1500 Watts, MFJ-1798. You can imagi...

Vertical Antennas

Posted by Archie KD6OLH on February 12, 2009 at 12:09 AM Comments comments ()

I have been looking at several vertical antennas and I think I have settled on the MFJ 1798. According to the claims made this antenna covers 80/75. 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10, 6, and 2 mtrs. It has been said that with a tuner,it can cover the channelized 5mHz 60 mtr. band. This is all the bands the FT-857D covers with the exception of the 70cm.(420 to 450 mHz). It's a 10 band, half wave vertical that needs no ground radials and no counterpoise. It's only 20 ft. long and weighs 18 lbs. It's r...

Posted by Archie KD6OLH on February 7, 2009 at 8:26 PM Comments comments ()

My radio is a 857D and it works well as far as I know. I need a antenna that will xmit on all bands the radio is capable of. I'm looking at a 10 band MFJ vertical. Has anyone had some practical experence in using a vertical all band. All info will be appreciated. Thanks kd6olh
